Clear Past items from the Notification Area [Customize Notifications....]
Open Registry Editor (regedit.exe)
Navigate to the following key:
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify]
Backup the registry key
Delete IconStreams and PastIconsStream values
Restart the computer
